Situated in the heart of the White Peak in the delightful village of Litton, the cottage is an ideal base to explore the wide variety of activities and visits the area has to offer while returning to a haven of peace in which to relax and unwind. The cottage has gas-fired central heating. The spacious fitted kitchen has a comprehensive inventory of equipment and there is plenty of storage space. There is a gas hob, electric fan oven, a fridge freezer, washer, dishwasher and microwave oven. The floor is quarry tiled and the kitchen is completed to a high standard. |

The spacious lounge has a sitting and dining area and is entered from a separate hallway which is stone flagged and has a delightful traditional stone staircase leading to a landing and the upstairs rooms via a gallery area which can be used as an extra sitting area, to read or watch TV. It can also become a sleeping area for cot or fold-down bed. The stone hearth in the lounge has a wood burning stove and a natural pine floor. There are comfortable chairs and a dining table and chairs. A high chair and cot are available. Rugs lend a softness to the room and there is a colour TV and video player/recorder. The doorway shown to the right in the picture leads to the kitchen whereas the left hand door leads to a twin-bedded room with velux windows in the roof and luxury rugs on a pine floor. There is a downstairs walk-in shower room with WC and washbasin. |

The two bedrooms upstairs have furniture made by local craftsmen. There is one bedroom with a double bed and a second room with two full sized bunk beds. The natural pine floors have luxury rugs. A cot is available. A cosy bathroom has a bath, with shower over, as well as a wc, washbasin and shaver points. |

Off street parking is provided and children are welcome and well provided for. There is a garage which is ideal safe storage for bicycles or other outdoor equipment and patio furniture and a barbecue are stored here. Also available are a tumble dryer and drying rack. There is adequate space outside to sit and enjoy an open air barbecue and take in the scenery and we also have a field which offers more space where guests can sit outside or play games. Evening meals are available by arrangement and we would be pleased to arrange a 'starter pack' of provisions for you given adequate notice of your needs. There are a number of local pubs and restaurants within easy reach, including the Red Lion which is in the village itself and a short walk away. |

Farm Hands Cottage is situated in the quiet village of Litton away from main roads but within easy reach of all the attractions the Peak National Park has to offer. There are many local villages worth a visit. Tideswell is just over the hill with a good range of shops and is well known for the magnificent village church generally known as the Cathedral of the Peak. Eyam is close by and is best known as the Plague Village for its heroic action during the Great Plague. Castleton has a Norman Keep and several showcaves. Many of the villages are well known for their well dressings in which delightful tableaux made by pressing flower petals into a clay base to celebrate the gift of water. Litton is one of the villages well known for this but other welldressings can be seen throughout the summer. |

The landscape of the Peak Park ranges from desolate moorlands to soft wooded valleys like Monsal Dale which is within easy walking distance. Well marked footpaths and cycle tracks make it easy to explore the area safely on foot or by bike. Cycle hire facilities are available, mainly by the various former railway trackbeds which offer 'family safe' routes with some of the best views available. The area is popular with climbers and cavers and many other outdoor sports are provided for such as gliding, hang gliding, sailing, fishing etc. Tourist information centres will provide you with guidance to locating these and other pursuits and we will be pleased to share with you the benefit of our local knowledge. |

We are within a short drive of the market towns of Buxton and Bakewell each offering a range of facilities and individual charm. Buxton is a former Spa town with grand Victorian and Edwardian architecture. The former Devonshire Royal Hospital, now owned by the University of Derby, has a dome that was once the biggest in Europe. There is a fine Crescent and landscaped Park and the newly restored Opera House hosts several festivals and a full programme of entertainments throughout the year ranging from Pantomime to Opera. Regular antique, book and collectors fairs are held in the Pavilion Gardens. Bakewell is renowned for the Bakewell Pudding and for the weekly animal auctions and has some delightful shops to explore and a range of places for eating and drinking.Ashbourne and Matlock are both within easy reach. |

You will have no shortage of interesting places to visit and all within a short to medium drive. The theme parks of Alton Towers, the American Adventure and Gulliver's Kingdom offer a lively day for children and the young at heart and stately homes abound. Chatsworth House, home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire is set in a fine deer park and offers many attractions; Haddon Hall has an altogether more accessible feel and you may also choose to visit Hardwick Hall, Kedleston, Calke Abbey and Lyme Hall - used as the set for the TV series Pride and Prejudice. Castleton and Buxton have showcaves suitable for all the family - there is something for everyone whether you are after a quiet or a busy holiday! |
