Upper Hulme is a tiny hamlet clustered around a defunct mill on the upper reaches of the River Churnet. It is picturesque both because of its position, for it is the gateway to the Roaches and Hen Cloud as well as being close to Ramshaw Rocks, and because the houses and farms are built of a beautiful local red sandstone.
